Leslie Wright..... Handwovens

In 1974 Leslie Wright went to a county fair in Missoula, Montana and returned home with a blue-ribbon lamb (a Romney whom she named Georgia.)
Thus began her vocation. She learned to spin wool, knit and then to weave. She became enamored of the colors and availability of cottons, rayons and silks and began to use those fibers exclusively.
Leslie Wright handweaves using two 52" Norwood looms and then shrinks the fabrics in the hottest wash and dry cycles available. Then she designs, cuts and sews her creations. Finally, she finishes each piece with a crocheted edge.
According to Leslie, "The impulsive purchase of a lamb in 1974 began my fiber arts career. I learned to spin, knit and weave. The wonderful selection of colors of cottons, rayons and silk as well as the comfort factor and feel of the fibers caused me to end my use of wool."
"I design, handweave, and create women's wearables. Each piece is my own original creation. I get inspiration from the colors of my surroundings living on a ridge overlooking the New River in the mountains of North Carolina."
